The Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave AF system of the lens is able to drive the focus lens groups quickly and quietly, which is ideal for shooting macro animals and insects or for video footage. For added focusing speed, a focus range limiter function can be set with 3 different ranges of focus (full range, 0.5m to infinity, 0.28m to 0.5m). A focus hold button on the lens barrel allows users to lock focus on the current focusing distance. Users can also instantly switch to manual focus mode by shifting the sliding focus ring to manual mode.
